Standard release terms, in plain English
This page is maintained by Real Life Sports so marketing and procurement teams can review how our footage is cleared before a call. It is a summary for convenience — the signed license agreement and talent releases are the controlling documents, and this page is not legal advice or a certification.
Talent releases
Every creator signs a written release before their footage enters the vault. The release covers appearance, voice, name, and the footage itself for licensed commercial use in the media and territory shown on your order.
Minors
Footage featuring anyone under 18 requires a parent or legal guardian signature on the same release. Clips without a guardian signature are never delivered, and school or league identifiers are removed on request.
Ownership
Creators retain copyright in their footage. You receive a license — not an assignment — unless a buyout is agreed in writing. Nothing you receive is exclusive by default.
Standard license grant
Worldwide, non-exclusive right to reproduce, edit, and display the delivered clips in paid social, organic social, owned website, and email. Pilot Starter runs 6 months from delivery; Pilot Campaign runs 12 months. Renewal is a flat extension fee, quoted before expiry.
Editing rights
You may cut, crop, caption, colour, add music, and add your own branding. You may not add claims a creator did not make, imply endorsement beyond the footage, or use the footage in a way that ridicules the individual.
Excluded uses (quote required)
Broadcast and CTV, cinema, out-of-home, packaging, perpetual buyouts, political or advocacy campaigns, gambling, alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and pharmaceutical categories are excluded from the standard grant and priced separately.
Exclusivity and category locks
Optional. A 90-day category lock on specific clips is available as an add-on, which prevents us from licensing those clips to a named competitor list during the lock.
Third-party marks and music
We flag visible third-party logos before delivery and can reshoot or blur them. Delivered clips contain no licensed music — audio is either natural sound or silent, so you clear your own soundtrack.
Warranties and indemnity
We warrant that we hold signed releases and the right to grant your license, and we indemnify you against claims arising from a breach of that warranty. We do not indemnify uses that fall outside the granted media, territory, or term.
Takedown and revocation
A creator may request removal of their footage from the vault at any time. Licenses already granted remain valid for the paid term, but we will not renew removed footage and will notify you within 5 business days.
Credit
No credit is required. Creator handles are supplied with every delivery if you want to tag them, and tagging is encouraged.
Documents on request
We can supply the blank talent release, a sample license agreement, a W-9, and a certificate of insurance for your procurement file before any invoice is raised.
